- Are you running IBM's Lan Server or Microsoft's Lan Manager?
- LanMan 2.1 has a utility call AsyncBEUI, which is essentially NetBEUI
- optimized for use over a serial line instead of ethernet/token ring.
-
- It's slow if you try to run any executables over it, but for accessing data
- or just reading mail, it's OK.
-
- I'm not familiar enough with Lan Server to know if it has this capability
- or not. One thing you can do is run Norton's pcAnywhere on a DOS workstation
- on your LAN, and dial into it from a remote pc. It supports dial-back
- security based on a password, but there is no way to attach a userid to
- a password - when you dial in to a PCAW host, you supply only a password,
- not userid/password.
-
- Hope you find what you're looking for...
