- I just upgraded from 3.0 to 3.1 and, like so many others, I'm
- experiencing difficulties with more than two COM ports being active
- at once.
-
- My setup:
- Gateway 486/33 ISA-bus
-
- IRQ 4 03F8 COM1 (serial mouse)
- IRQ 3 02F8 COM2 (external modem)
- IRQ 5 02E8 COM4 (internal data/fax modem card)
- IRQ 2 Sound Blaster Pro (default addr/dma).
-
- Under this configuration, COM2 works under any circumstance but
- accessing COM4 with a DOS app causes my mouse pointer to freeze until
- I restart Windows. The mouse pointer freezes sometimes after I
- connect and get a few characters across my screen, other times as soon
- as the port is opened. Note this only occurs when I access COM4 with
- a DOS app (namely Telix 3.15); accessing COM4 with the Terminal app
- included with Windows causes no problems.
-
- I've setup all the ports with the correct interrupts and base
- addresses in both Windows and Telix... All of this worked fine under
- Windows 3.0. I tried IRQ 7 with the SBPro and it made no difference.
- In fact, removing the SBPro temporarily made no difference.
- Any ideas? Should I switch to OS/2 2.0? (no flames, note Organization).
-
- Thanks,
- Victor
