- I wouldn't use it. When a computer is shut down with any files open (beyond
- command.com or 4dos.com and their like), it is intirely possible for any
- files on the hard disk to become cross-linked and thrashed. This won't
- happen on every machine/drive out there, but can happen. My supervisor
- used to shut off his computer without exiting windows 3.1, until one
- day he ran chkdsk and found 60 cross-linked files. It took him a few
- hours to un-cross link them manually (Norton wouldn't work, since those
- files were affected).
-
- The safest thing to do would be to exit windows, then park the hard disk.
- This will reduce the chance of corrupting the FAT to nearly zero.
