- Hello netters,
-
- I recently began hooking up a Toshiba 3301E CDROM to my vintage 1986 XT. I was
- not successful in getting the thing to talk to a TMC 850 Future Domain board, but in
- the process of trying I ended up reformatting my SCSI D-F drive for the FD board. The
- C drive (MFM Miniscribe 20 MB on its own controller) had been working fine with the
- Seagate SCSI board up until this - it now seems to have disappeared!!!
-
- I ca do C: and get there, but dir gives an error message divide overflow. Nor can I
- type any C file known to be in the root directory. But I can key a:park and it will
- park 2 heads. I can also key F: from C and it will go there.
-
- I cannot use fdisk from A to check out the disk and the nu command from Norton Utilities
- will not work either altho it works fine on other disks.
-
- Natually, I used compression software on C to compress my D+ drive and then used PCtools
- PCbackup (6.0) to backup the D+(SCSI) drive. I can put Pctools 7.1 back on D+ to do
- some work (if I knew what to do).
-
- Can anyone direct me to how I might restore use of the C drive hopefully with the files
- that I did not touch, intact. If this is not the right group, could someone redirect me.
-
- Oh - I talked to Toshiba and they said the FD SCSI board is not standard in its pincouts.
- I have written to FD with the serial # but have not heard anything.
-
- I have also tried booting from a diskette that has no *.sys or *.bat - just the system
- command file and that does not work (this on the advice of the store that sold me the
- hard drive a few years ago - no doc - it just came in a box and I left with hand written
- instructiosn on formatting it.)
-
- Yes, I finally got the Toshiba working with a Trantor interface (parallel to SCSI) but of
- course, much of the software wants to create directories on the C drive that doesn't
- entirely exist! And only one of the 5 packages that came with the drive will run
- without putting config files to the C drive.
-
- Thanks - email to me would be most efficient but the net is OK too.
