  15.    Might it be time to consider reorganizing the directory structure
  16.    of the Linux ftp sites?  So many people are working on so much
  17.    and being so successful that it's virtually impossible to figure
  18.    out where to get what. Is it reasonable to expect people to read
  19.    an upload announcement of 'freds utilities assortment' and understand
  20.    that it's the exact thing they need ?

  22. I've been working on it..... unfortunately, it's taking a while.  You
  23. will be noticing the directory structure on tsx-11 gradually mutating
  24. towards something that's a bit more understandable over the next few
  25. months.  Many of the newer packages which are being uloaded are being
  26. placed in /pub/linux/packages, for example.

  28. Unfortunately, what I've been running into is something that Librarians
  29. have know for a long time --- storing books (files) is easy.  Cataloging
  30. and indexing so that people can successfully find what they want later
  31. on is the hard part, and that's what takes all of the time and effort.
