- Might it be time to consider reorganizing the directory structure
- of the Linux ftp sites? So many people are working on so much
- and being so successful that it's virtually impossible to figure
- out where to get what. Is it reasonable to expect people to read
- an upload announcement of 'freds utilities assortment' and understand
- that it's the exact thing they need ?
-
- I've been working on it..... unfortunately, it's taking a while. You
- will be noticing the directory structure on tsx-11 gradually mutating
- towards something that's a bit more understandable over the next few
- months. Many of the newer packages which are being uloaded are being
- placed in /pub/linux/packages, for example.
-
- Unfortunately, what I've been running into is something that Librarians
- have know for a long time --- storing books (files) is easy. Cataloging
- and indexing so that people can successfully find what they want later
- on is the hard part, and that's what takes all of the time and effort.
