- Linuxers,
-
- I pretty much just need specific help here... In my continuing quest
- to avoid using DOS for anything like "real work", I need to start
- producing TeX output at home on Linux.
-
- I have a Panasonic 1123, which does a very competent Epson LQ
- emulation (there are probably more Panasonics with Epson emulation
- around than there are Epsons :^). It's attached to the first parallel
- device (I know this because I can cat text to it).
-
- Currently, I have TeX running and it produces dvi files quite happily.
- I also have dvips binaries and ghostscript binaries. dvips simply
- won't work for me -- and I couldn't make head or tails out of the
- configuration files. I understand it's possible to get output on
- printers like mine using ghostscript...
-
- So, could someone who is using TeX under Linux with a dot-matrix
- printer send me some information on just how they do it? Where to put
- the fonts (where to _get_ the fonts, too), how to set up configuration
- files, etc? I mean, I'm not even sure that I need dvips...
-
- If there's interest, I'll follow up with a summary of what works
- (assuming something does :^).
-
- Nick
-
- P.S. I'd like to get xdvi running too, but on my 640x400 display it's
- probably not really worth it... aw heck, sure, of _course_ it's worth
- it!
-
- P.P.S. I showed a DOS/Windoze-using pal of mine my Linux setup... even
- with the sorry X display he was blown away. He left muttering
- something about getting a new hard drive.
