- I've had an AMD 386/40 since August of last year, and initially I had really
- bad problems with my system. After I put a surge suppressor on the system
- the system crashes disappeared. I have no idea why an AMD386/40 would
- be more susceptible to power transients but I think that was the problem.
-
- The sympton I was having was non-Linux: my system would lock up inadvertently
- in the middle of (usually) modeming sessions, with the the keyboard totally
- dead. The only thing that would restart the system was a hard reset.
-
- I run Linux on my system now without any problems whatsoever, and I do
- use it quite heavily sometimes - sometimes I'll run two huge gcc compiles
- while I'm modeming.
