  11. I'm trying to run Elm 2.3 PL11 on an HP 9000/345 running HP-UX 8.0.
  12. The problem is that there is no way for elm to create lock files in
  13. the mail spool directory (/usr/mail in this case) due to lack of write
  14. permission.  Upon startup, Elm complains bitterly with:

  16.        Can't create lock file! Need write permission in "/usr/mail/".

  18. Because my machine is a diskless client of a server I don't
  19. administer, there is no hope of changing the permissions on /usr/mail
  20. or running elm setgid.  As far as I can tell, there is no easy
  21. configurable way to change the location of these lock files.  Is there
  22. a workaround for this, or is the problem more complicated than I
  23. understand it?
