- Here is the scenario:
-
-
- [int e 1 : 143.183.3.1 up ]____________[int e 1 :143.183.3.5 up]
- [int e 2 : 143.183.3.5 down] [ ]
- Router A Router B
-
-
- Pinging router A's int e 1 from Router B... no response.
-
- Looked at the arp cache of router A, noticed that it had the ethernet
- address of its own int e 2(which is administratively shutdown).
- Cleared the arp cache, but it refreshed it self immediately with the
- hardware address of the shutdow interface.
- Therefore I conclude that: Even if an interface is administratively shutdown,
- line protocol down, the router caches the hardware address if it has
- been assigned an ip address. Is this a bug or a feature?
