- Can one of the big brains here explain to my what is going on here.
- I have always thought that the correct setting for IBM (clone) board
- was 8 word bits and 1 stop bit and have had things set that way for
- two years now. Now with a 9600 baud Okidata modem that I bought 6
- months back I am just starting to use it to D/L and U/L from bbss.
- I have seen all kinds of problems with this one board that runs one
- of those new Surpa fax 14.4K modems. Like I can't D/L at speeds from
- 2400 up to 96000 or 38.4K with any protocol other than old X-modem CRC
- or check-sum. With all of the others my D/L and U/L abourt for me.
- At the same time I see that on the Supra board at any speed faster than 2400
- the screens seem to pause in the middle of a line fo text. Some times it
- pauses at the start of a line or at the end. The thing is that it cost
- time to wait for all of these lines to fill the screen at 9600 and up to
- the point that it is faster to call at just 2400. Now after getting my
- modem and Telix V3.12 all set up for hardware control/ NOT X-ON X-OFF.
- I saw no change at all, and I am on COM2 2F8 IRQ3. I just for kicks
- changed my stop bit from 1 to 2 in the Telix and then tested the same
- bbs again. Well I now see less screen pauses than I had before. My
- CPS has gone from 905CPS best speed with 1K X-Modem\G when it would work
- all the way up to 1245CPS using the same files for testing in all cases.
- Now I can D/L and U/L with all of the other protocols as well and see
- an increase with each of them. My point is HOW and WHY and WHAT is going
- on that I ma doing so much better by using the wrong STOP bit on an IBM
- system as this one with the SupraFax modem????? Can anyone explaine this??
