- Besides, most places will not have the old chips anymore. I haven't seen
- anything but the newest PC16550 chip in the last few months. By the way,
- the recent chips I got are marked with both the PC16550 *AND* 16550AFN
- part numbers. The PC16550 is the low-power, low-heat model, correct?
-
- PS- Fry's electronics sells the PC16550/16550AFN for $9.99. You can buy
- it with the two line driver chips for $10.49, or you can get the line
- driver chips at 4/$1.00 which means you have to buy 4 of each one, but
- anyways, it's cheap to add a 16550 port if your serial card is expandable.
- Call (408) 555-1212 and ask for the number for the Sunnyvale or Fremont
- Fry's, or (415) 555-1212 for the one in Palo Alto. They do mail-order
- for a reasonable charge, although their main business is retail. If you
- ever visit the Bay Area, stop by a store. They are huge.
