  16. Yesterday I connected a modem to a Sun SPARCstation 1 just to figure
  17. out how to setup a dial-in/out connection. The modem I use is a
  18. Discovery 1200A type modem and it is connected to ttya.
  19. To provide dial-in support I changed the entry for ttya into the
  20. following:

  22.     tty    "/usr/etc/getty std.1200"    dialup    on remote
  23.  
  24. To provide dial-out support I created a new device /dev/cua0 as it
  25. is explained in the Sun manual "System & Network Administration".
  26. I also added an entry to /etc/ttytab as follows:

  28.     cua0    "/usr/etc/getty D1200"        unknown    off remote
  29.  
  30. I am able to use tip to connect to the modem and to send it AT
  31. commands. I am also able to dial out and connect to remote modems.
  32. But when someone tries to dial-in it just hangs up shortly after
  33. detecting the carrier. The CD led on the front panel lights up for
  34. a few seconds and then the modem drops the connection.

  36. What is going wrong or what am I doing wrong and does somebody know
  37. what to do about it?
