- I have a USR Sportster 14,400 Fax modem. It is reliable, and I get
- transfer rates around 1650 with lh5 archives. It doesn't support any
- speeds above 14.4 kbit/s or the HST protocol presently. It won't be
- upgradeable to V.fast unlike the Courier series. The two biggest
- drawbacks IMO are the lack of Class 2 faxcommands and automatic dete-
- ction of fax calls. According to USR, Class 2 will be available next
- year. They didn't even bother to answer, when/if automatic detection
- of fax calls will be available.

- I haven't had any opportunity, to try a ZyXEL 1496E, but if I had
- known, what I know now, when I bought the Sportster, I'd probably
- have chosen the ZyXEL instead.
