- At the recent ComNet show, AT&T was exhibiting a prototype public
- telephone they called FuturePhone 2000. It's sort of a cross
- between a conventional payphone and an automated teller machine
- (no, it doesn't dispense cash, but it does take credit cards).
-
- It has a color CRT display, a full [7-bit] ASCII keyboard, can
- operate as a TDD or VT100-compatible data terminal (but only up
- to 2400, sigh), and has a mod jack so you can plug in laptops/
- portables (perhaps with higher speed modems or fax modems).
-
- They're planning to install them initially in airports (no
- surprise there).
