  11. I know that this mas been asked before, but I am looking for a good,
  12. reliable 14400 modem, and I was wondering what everyone thought about
  13. which one is the best.  The main ones I have been looking at are
  14. Supra, Boca, and Zoom.  I have heard good and bad about all of them.  I
  15. am having some problems getting a clear description of what exactly the
  16. function of the UART chip is.  Some people say that you don't need it
  17. unless you have an internal modem, some say otherwise.  Could someone
  18. please explain what exactly this chip does, and what the advantage
  19. of having the 16550 over the 16450 is (also what is the equivalent of
  20. Rockwell's 16460?).  Any opinions or responses are greately appreciated.
