- Announcement
-
- An electronic newsletter and a discussion list have just been
- created about chronic fatigue syndrome. CFS-NEWS is independent
- newsletter which seeks to serve the CFS community by quickly
- disseminating information about current medical research on CFS.
- It will be issued about once each month to give updates on these
- developments. Other CFS topics of interest to the readership will
- also be covered. Advice and contributions of news items are
- welcome.
-
- CFS-L is a discussion list which seeks to serve the needs of
- persons with chronic fatigue syndrome by enabling a broad
- discussion of CFS-related topics. Subscription is open and the
- list is unmoderated. Please note that any advice which may be
- given on this list regarding diagnoses or treatments, etc.,
- reflects only the opinion of the individual posting the message;
- people with CFS ought to consult with a licensed health care
- practitioner who is familiar with the syndrome.
-
- Chronic fatigue syndrome is an illness characterized by
- debilitating fatigue and a variety of flu-like symptoms. The
- condition is also known as chronic fatigue immune deficiency
- syndrome (CFIDS), myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and by other
- names, and in the past has been known as chronic Epstein-Barr virus
- (CEBV).
-
- To subscribe to CFS-NEWS, send the following command to LISTSERV@NIHLIST or
- to LISTSERV@LIST.NIH.GOV:
-
- SUB CFS-NEWS your_full_name
-
- where "your_full_name" is your name. For example:
-
- SUB CFS-NEWS John Doze
-
- Similarly, to join the CFS-L discussion, use the same procedure as
- above except you use "CFS-L" in place of "CFS-NEWS". Please
- remember that CFS-L is a LISTSERV list, so that administrative
- commands (such as SUBSCRIBE, etc.) must be sent to
- LISTSERV@nodename, whereas messages for posting to the list must be
- sent to CFS-L@nodename.
-
- CFS patients are also advised to retrieve and read the file named
- RESOURCE at the NIH server. Note that the server is at a different
- node address than is the LISTSERV. To get the file, put the
- command GET FTP CFS.RESOURCE in the Subject heading of an e-mail
- message (the text is ignored) and send it to SERVER@NIHCU.BITNET or
- SERVER@CU.NIH.GOV. It is also available via anonymous FTP at
- cu.nih.gov or 128.231.64.7, password=guest, directory=CFS,
- filename=RESOURCE.
