-
- This posting is to announce the opening of:
-
- The HP-UX Porting and Archive Centre
- at
- The University of Liverpool, UK
-
- The Centre is a joint initiative by the Department of Computer Science at
- the University and Hewlett-Packard. All software archived at the centre has
- been successfully compiled and tested for the HP 700 series; much of it
- will also run under the 300/400 series. The centre welcomes contributions of
- public domain software ported elsewhere.
-
- The packages are available as compressed tar archives (.tar.Z files) from the
- following anonymous FTP Archive site:
-
- ftp.csc.liv.ac.uk
-
- (Connect using the user "anonymous" and your e-mail address as the password)
-
- There are currently in excess of 150 packages installed and new packages
- are being added daily.
-
- You are recommended to obtain the following files first:
-
- /README - Explains the overall aims and structure.
- /Conventions - Archiving conventions used: VITAL TO READ !
- /hpux/X11/Xaw-4.00.tar.Z - R4 Athena Widgets include files (not supplied
- with HP-UX 8.0 and needed for many R4 packages).
- /hpux/X11/imake-4.00.tar.Z - An HP 700-targeted imake source distribution:
- only site-specific paths need to be edited. Used
- to translate Imakefiles to Makefiles.
-
- A catalogue of the archive is available in either troff or plain text
- format. These catalogues contains a short description of each package and
- are available from the directories /TroffDoc and /TextDoc.
-
- We are interested in getting feedback from users and this should be sent
- by e-mail to:
- ftp@csc.liv.ac.uk
-
- ftp.csc.liv.ac.uk will shortly be registered with various archie servers to
- further aid access (we have the source to archie, xarchie and xftp on the
- Archive for those who want easier front-ends to anonymous FTP).
