  19. This posting is to announce the opening of:

  21.                 The HP-UX Porting and Archive Centre
  22.                                 at
  23.                   The University of Liverpool, UK
  24.  
  25. The Centre is a joint initiative by the Department of Computer Science at
  26. the University and Hewlett-Packard. All software archived at the centre has
  27. been successfully compiled and tested for the HP 700 series; much of it
  28. will also run under the 300/400 series. The centre welcomes contributions of
  29. public domain software ported elsewhere.

  31. The packages are available as compressed tar archives (.tar.Z files) from the
  32. following anonymous FTP Archive site:

  36. (Connect using the user "anonymous" and your e-mail address as the password)

  38. There are currently in excess of 150 packages installed and new packages
  39. are being added daily.
  40.  
  41. You are recommended to obtain the following files first:
  42.  
  43. /README                    - Explains the overall aims and structure.
  44. /Conventions               - Archiving conventions used: VITAL TO READ !
  45. /hpux/X11/Xaw-4.00.tar.Z   - R4 Athena Widgets include files (not supplied
  46.                              with HP-UX 8.0 and needed for many R4 packages).
  47. /hpux/X11/imake-4.00.tar.Z - An HP 700-targeted imake source distribution:
  48.                              only site-specific paths need to be edited. Used
  49.                              to translate Imakefiles to Makefiles.
  50.  
  51. A catalogue of the archive is available in either troff or plain text
  52. format. These catalogues contains a short description of each package and
  53. are available from the directories /TroffDoc and /TextDoc.

  55. We are interested in getting feedback from users and this should be sent

  60. further aid access (we have the source to archie, xarchie and xftp on the
