- Linda--
- In general, I think it's a lot easier to cheat in undergrad
- classes than on the GRE. I've known a lot of people who
- cheated their way through college, but I don't know anyone
- who even tried to cheat on the GRE. Here's an ingenious
- story of how you could do it, tho: (this actually happened
- on the SAT).
- Apparently there was a guy who could score a perfect 1600 on
- the SAT. He offered an "SAT prep course", where he simply
- taught the students how to memorize long sequences of letters.
- Then he flew to the east coast, where it's 3 hours later than
- out here in California, so the SAT was given 3 hours earlier.
- He took the test, memorized the answers, called his students
- who had paid him, and gave them the answers, which they
- memorized and wrote on the test. He even instructed the
- students to get a few questions wrong so it wouldn't look
- obvious to ETS. Then he took off with the students' money
- --good scam, huh? Unfortunately, some of the students got
- greedy and wrote down all of the correct answers. ETS got
- suspicious, did a big investigation, tracked down the guy,
- and invalidated all of his students' scores. Well, it all
- goes to show that cheaters never prosper, but wasn't that
- a creative idea?

- P.S. Don't ask me for cites on this one--it's just a story
- I heard!
