  17. and now have
  18. an RA ship paying my way through grad school, I should expect to be
  19. here a looonnnngggg tttiiiimmmmeeee!!!!!!  :)   :)   :)   :)   :)

  21.         Actually, the last figures I saw (Chronicle of Higher
  22. Education last year) indicated that normative time for the Ph.D. in
  23. the social sciences was 10 years plus.  The department at Davis says
  24. normative time is four years.  The grad division there says its 5
  25. years, and actual normative time is between 6 and 7 years--and
  26. getting longer.
