- and now have
- an RA ship paying my way through grad school, I should expect to be

- Actually, the last figures I saw (Chronicle of Higher
- Education last year) indicated that normative time for the Ph.D. in
- the social sciences was 10 years plus. The department at Davis says
- normative time is four years. The grad division there says its 5
- years, and actual normative time is between 6 and 7 years--and
- getting longer.
