- I'm not on CircPlus; Western Kentucky University Libraries' Circulation
- Coordinator forwarded this message to me.
-
- MLA-L, the mailing list of the Music Library Association (MLA-L@IUBVM),
- held a lengthy discussion of CD labelling several months ago. The concern
- with ANY labelling, stickers, etching, etc. is that is compromises the
- integrity of the CD casing. One institution had found that after several
- years, the labels were eating through the top layer of casing.
-
- While CD's are not expected to last forever, it seems unwise to hasten their
- demise. I would suggest training circulation assistants to check the jewel
- cases at checkout and return to verify that the correct disc is in the case
- rather than adding any labelling that might ruin the disc.
-
- Good luck! For only a few more hours (before I move to another institution),
