- Dear Readers,
-
- Last Tuesday, a note was sent to 99% of server administrators
- about a bug which had been discovered. It was recommened in that email
- that they upgrade ASAP by either applying the 2.7.2f_to_2.7.2g patch
- file or getting the new package deal. Some interesting things resulted,
- some servers upgraded, others did nothing, some complained about bugs,
- some email addresses bounced and some email addreses didnt even match
- the domain/net the server was in (enough has been said on this already).
-
- It has been long enough (given that it is summer 'up there') for
- people to apply it, I am pretty sure I made the situation quite clear
- about how urgent the matter was.
-
- For those who dont know, cast your minds back to the ^G channel
- bug which haunted people for a while. Due to the inaction of some and
- actions of others, I've decided to let you all in on the big secret.
-
- If you do "JOIN #channelwhichdontexist,#channelwhichdoes" you will get
- chanop on both channels, provided you can join them both.
- Of course, you can string 10 channels in 1 JOIN command.
-
- This and some other problem commands such as "WHOIS *" have
- been neutered (thanks to Kaizzu for suggestion on WHOIS fix) in the
- latest patch and release.
-
- Hopefully now some more people will get off their butts.
-
- The patchfile and irc2.7.2g.tar.Z should now be available in
- the regular places to look for IRC releases.
