  20.   I never considered IRC as a toy. Some users may *USE* IRC like a
  21.   toy, but IRC can be and is used as a real tool/service on the
  22.   Internet.  Unfortunately, the "IRC is toy" faction seems to be
  23.   gaining ground (one of the reasons I have stopped running servers
  24.   myself).

  26.   Real internet conferencing will most likely come outside the current
  27.   IRC "community", which is kind of sad. I still maintain, that the
  28.   experience gained from IRC is valuable. This includes both technical
  29.   and social aspects, positive (what we did right) and negative (what
  30.   we did wrong) aspects in both areas.
