  12. I just saw Doc-To-Help demonstrated at the Windows & OS/2 conference in
  13. Boston.  It looks good, seems fast, and may help some people.

  15. D2H  v. 1.1 is an add-in to Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0 that takes a
  16. text document and provides formatting via style sheets to produce
  17. printable manual pages.  Working from that file, D2H creates the Rich
  18. Text Format (RTF) file and the project file needed to use the Microsoft
  19. Help Compiler, then compiles the help file.

  21. It helps you index the text and provides the tools to do styles, page
  22. layout, floating footers, margin notes and cross-references.

  24. Decisions about the hypertext linking are automatically derived from the
  25. styles assigned to the document plus additions you deliberately make. 
  26. You can control the content of the document and the hypertext separately
  27. if you wish.

  29. To author, you need Windows, Word for Windows, and Doc-To-Help; to read,
  30. you need only Windows.

  32. You could consider this as a tool to convert linear text to hypertext,
  33. but the result may depend critically on the organization of the original
  34. document.  It is reasonably fast--crunched 18 megabytes of document to
  35. hypertext in 2 hours of machine time--so maybe it lets you do more than
  36. one draft in the time available.
