  22.      This is a small bit of history about copyright, sueing and alt.sex.
  23. pictures.  Other people can tell the story better than I, so if any are out 
  24. there, I wish they would chime in.

  26.      The person who used to keep the FAQ on alt.sex.pictures (I think
  27. his name was Brian Reid) said that he once sent letters to Playboy, Penthouse
  28. and Hustler asking them about thier feelings and intentions about things
  29. like a.s.p.  He was at that time thinking of becoming the moderator of
  30. a.s.p, an event that would have been very good for the net.
  31.    The response, as far as I understand it was that if he became moderator,
  32. they might consider sueing to stop a.s.p.  Otherwise, as long as there
  33. was no organization, and no profit being made off thier pictures, they
  34. would not pursue it.

  36.    This is the story I refer to when I say that publishers know about
  37. a.b.p.e. Publishers certainly know about BBS's. The point I think is
  38. clear. They don't care about a little free distribution of thier
  39. material, but want to be able to stop it if it becomes abusive, or
  40. too organized.
  41.    I'm sure Playboy would chock if you said that 4-5 images were all that
  42. was valuable in thier magazine. In this context you might consider
  43. a.b.p.e to be nothing mor than free advertising for PLayboy (and the others)
  44. in violation of usenet practices :-)
