- HINTS FOR SWITCHING BETWEEN STANDARD AND 386 ENHANCED MODES OF
- WINDOWS, OR BETWEEN PROTECTED-MODE DOS AND iRMX FOR WINDOWS
- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Included in this directory are two icon files, SETDOS.ICO and SETRMX.ICO.
- These can be used along with some batch files to easily switch your PC
- configuration between one with iRMX for Windows present, and an alternate
- setup where protected-mode DOS and 386 Enhanced-mode Windows are present.
- You may find this to be useful during development, especially if you have a
- high-resolution monitor that can conveniently display DOS applications in a
- window.
-
- To set up your system, copy the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files you would
- use to run protected-mode DOS software and 386-Enhanced mode Windows to the
- files CONFIG.DOS and AUTOEXEC.DOS. In the sample files provided, these are
- located in the C:\BAT directory.
-
- When you create CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files for iRMX for Windows, copy
- them to the files CONFIG.RMX and AUTOEXEC.RMX. Then, use the files
- SETDOS.BAT and SETRMX.BAT to switch your system between the two
- configurations. These batch files simply copy the *.RMX files or the *.DOS
- files to the regular CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. Once the copy is
- complete, reboot the system for the changes to take effect. Remember that
- if you want to change either CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT in the future, you
- should change the corresponding .DOS or .RMX file, since CONFIG.SYS and
- AUTOEXEC.BAT will be overwritten when you switch configurations.
-
- The files WIN.DOS and WIN.RMX are provided so you can type WIN to enter
- Windows regardless of the way your system is configured. If you don't mind
- typing WIN for Enhanced mode and RMXWIN for Standard-mode operation, they are
- not needed.
-
- If you are using Windows, you can assign the icons to the SETDOS.BAT and
- SETRMX.BAT files in the Windows Program Manager so the mode switching can
- be done with the click of a mouse.
