  21. PURPOSE
  22. ~~~~~~~
  23. This document provides guidance for SYSOPS and individuals who are 
  24. members of the Worldwide Genealogy Association, North American 
  25. Component (WGA-NA) and who participate in the WGA-NA Network 
  26. (WGA_Net).  The WGA-NA is a professional, nonprofit association of 
  27. genealogists. The WGA-NA shares with WGA-EUR in operating an 
  28. electronic communications network called WGA_Net.

  30. MEMBERSHIP

  32. Membership in WGA-NA is gained by completing a membership 
  33. application and submitting it, either directly or indirectly 
  34. through a WGA_Net Host, to the North American Coordinator, 
  35. Worldwide Genealogy Association. There are two types of 
  36. membership: SYSOP and PRIVATE.
  37.  
  38. A SYSOP is the operator of a bulletin board (BBS) which carries 
  39. genealogical conferences for the use of callers. The bulletin board 
  40. operates and is accessable 24 hours per day except during Zone Mail 
  41. Hour. A SYSOP shall not act as a feed to non-members; however, all 
  42. callers to the SYSOP member's bulletin board shall be able to read, 
  43. answer and enter messages in those WGA_Net public conferences carried 
  44. on the SYSOP's bulletin board. If a caller desires to download all 
  45. messages in any or all WGA_Net conferences, that caller must become a 
  46. member of WGA-NA prior to being allowed to download.

  48. Persons who are PRIVATE members do not operate a bulletin board but 
  49. use the information in genealogical conferences furnished by the 
  50. WGA_Net for personal research purposes. The PRIVATE member can 
  51. receive traffic on all the echoes authorized a SYSOP member.

  53. At the present time, no dues are being collected from members of WGA-
  54. NA. However, dues are currently being paid by members of the Worldwide 
  55. Genealogy Association, Europe (WGA-EUR) and It is anticipated that as 
  56. the network grows in North America that meager dues will be collected. 
  57. If, and when, this is done the amount of such dues will be set at that 
  58. level which will *only* pay for intercontinental telephone calls which 
  59. must be made to transfer traffic between continents.

  61. PROCEDURE FOR JOINING WGA-NA

  63. A SYSOP (or PRIVATE node) should first (electronically) obtain a 
  64. membership application from a Host in the WGA_Net. The application 
  65. should be completed and returned to the Host. The Host will 
  66. (electronically) forward the completed membership application to the 
  67. North American Coordinator of WGA (WGA-NA) (40:2/1). Upon approval of 
  68. the applicant by the Coordinator, the Coordinator will furnish 
  69. (through the Host) the new member a WGA_Net node number.

  78. The WGA_Net furnishes conferences as listed in the current 
  79. WGA_ECHO.NA (or WGA_ECHO.EUR) file.
