  63.                The idea behind this textfile is very simple.
  64.           It is actually to simple to explain, but I will anyway,
  65.               otherwise you guys will stop after this anyhow.

  67. a) Somehow I actually READ all the STYLE-DOES-IT-LIVE-AT files
  68. b) I was fed up with adverts, so I 'felt' like writing something about it.
  69. c) I remembered I wrote a nice article that will be placed in the next
  70.    R.O.M. (right, mop?)

  84.               A very long time ago, I released a #?.txt file.
  85.                    It was released under the DS! label.
  86. It contained some simple designs for sysops, but somehow people thought it
  87. was an ascii collection, and until this day, there still are people who ask
  88.                         ME to do an ascii for them.
  89.   I guess this shows a lot about the people who claim to be in the scene
  90. today, they are just pretenders, they don't care about a thing, they don't
  91.                               read anything.
  92.  They see a #?.txt file, look at the name in the file_id and the next time
  93.    they see that handle somewhere, they just request an ascii from that
  94. handle, no respect, no selection of: "Hell, I really like what this guy is
  95.    doing" or "Geez, this dude should not be allowed to use CED anymore!"

  116. The title of the famous file is: "DS!-IDDA.TXT" if you want it, I can mail
  117.         it to you, but don't expect me to do anything else for ya.
  118. Hell, just remembered (not exactly true...I opened another CED and watched
  119.  the 'colly' again), that I had some nice quotes and an actual songtext in
  120.                                  the file.
  121. I might do that in this one too....you will just have to wait for that, or
  122.                       you can cheat and fastforward.
  123.   Since I am a BS! member, I do have some work from the guy they call ©MT
  124.  Every ascii aspect you will see in this #?.txt file is done by that guy,
  125.    not just because he is a BS! member, but because I respect his work,
  126.    because he became a scene-friend, because of...blabala...you get the

  159.  Most people on IRC hate the advertising on the chat channels, and yet, it
  160.                      is done like crazy all day long.
  161.        Nowadays there are even plenty of scripts to do the job well.
  162. I have come at an age that I think this is all pathetic, just a person has
  163.   a board does not give him the right to 'force' other people to call it
  164.                                   aswell.
  165.  And most of the time it really is forcing: "If you dont upload 1 meg the
  166.            first week, you are out of here" and crap like that.
  167.  It might be the background of me, but somehow I just don't think that is
  168.                             the right attitude.
  169.  I stopped my 'elite' board almost a year ago, and I am pretty glad that I
  170.     did, and I respect the people who did the same before and after me.
  171. I do call these so-called elite boards myself aswell, but this does not
  172.                  mean I agree with the 'rules' they have.
  173.                  But I am drifting away from the subject.

  175.     In real life we have more then enough advertising already I think.
  176.    For most of us the scene is something to get away from the real life
  177.                 hussle, and not to get into some more mess.
  178.  The scene should be something to share with friends, not to filthy it up
  179.                           with dozens of adverts.
  180.  I have stopped advertising my board with a script for more then a month,
  181.                          and I am glad that I did.
  182.   Yes, I do get less callers, but atleast now I get calls from people who
  183. actually want to go there, not because they have seen the advert 100 times
  184.                  in 5 hours and now want to see the shit.

  186.  Attempts to have bots for the 'silent' advertising and stuff have failed
  187.    miserably, although this add_bbs thing does do a nice job I can say.
  188. Final thought on this one: just stop advertising, people know the sysops by
  189.                                now I guess.

  196.                    This has always been a great medium.
  197. Lots of lha's are uploaded on the boards everyday, and someday some bright
  198.   dork got the idea to add something to it when it's uploaded to a board.
  199.    That was nice, but then it got out of hand, people started to add gif
  200.      pictures, people added 5 adverts in one tiny little lha archive.
  201.        People got sick and the so-called smart strippers were born.
  202.      Random adverts got invented, smart strippers became even smarter.
  203.              A new medium was discovered, the file_id advert.
  204.            Later on also strippers for that came on the market.
  205.     And at this point, everyone can add and strip as much as he likes.
  206. I always followed this chaos, I added to lha/lzx/txt files, and I stripped
  207.                            stuff from it aswell.
  208.                                Not anymore.
  209.    I will strip bbs adverts (not by using some crap stripper that strips
  210.       non-adverts aswell), but I won't add a dozen of my own adverts.
  211.   I will only add very small adverts, I have not made them yet, but they
  212.                  won't be more than 10 lines, and only 1.
  213.  Some people might say now: "Lamer, he still ads, if he was a real man, he
  214.                       would have stopped completely".
  215. But as I said before, I am not a real man, I am just your regular dumbass.

  217.              We live in a world that is based on advertising.
  218.      You cannot open a magazine, watch tv, or whatever and you see and
  219.                        advertisement within minutes.
  220.  And I know the use of it, without it products would be less available and
  221.                 probably more expensive and all that crap.
