- LOADING A TEXT FILE

- To load a text file or "story" into
- a document, choose Import text from
- the File menu. When the form
- appears, select the word processor
- used and click on OK. Use the Item
- Selector to select your file and
- click on OK.

- To place a story into a frame,
- select the frame, then click on the
- name of the story in the browser.
- LINKING STORY FRAMES

- To fit a long story into more than
- one frame, select another frame and
- click on the name of the story in
- the browser.

- DELETING A STORY
-
- To remove a story from your
- document, double-click on the story
- name in the browser. When the Alert
- appears, click on DELETE.

- The story is removed from your
- document, but the original text file
- is not deleted from the disk.

- TYPING IN AND EDITING TEXT

- To type in and edit text, switch to
- Text mode by clicking on the T icon
- in the toolkit and click in a story
- frame to position the text cursor.
- Select the text style before you
- type or edit by either choosing a
- style from the Style menu or the
- browser, or using the quick keys.

- SOFT HYPHENS

- Choose Soft hyphen in the Edit menu
- or press [Alt][H] to insert a soft
- (discretionary) hyphen into a word.
- The word will only be hyphenated
- at this point.

- TYPING IN BULLETS

- To type in bullet characters:
-
- 1. Switch to Text mode.
-
- 2. Select Font/size in the Style
- menu.

- 3. Choose the "Bullets" font and
- click on OK.

- 4. Press one of the keys [a] to [o].
- FIXED SPACES
-
- Press [Control][Space] to insert a
- fixed (non-breaking) space. A fixed
- space will not be stretched or used
- to break a line.

- SEARCH AND REPLACE EDITING
-
- Click on Find in the Edit menu or
- press [Alt][F] to search forward
- through a story for a piece of text
- and mark it as a block.

- Click on Replace in the Edit menu or
- press [Alt][R] to search forward
- through a story for a piece of text
- and replace it with another one. You
- can choose to replace one, some, or
- all of the pieces of text found.

- KERNING
-
- To alter the distance between two
- characters, place the text cursor
- between them and click on Kern in
- the Edit menu or press [Alt][K].
- Kern "cycles" between three
- settings: -2, +2 and 0.

- MARKING A BLOCK OF TEXT
-
- To mark a block of text, drag the
- mouse pointer from one end of the
- block to the other using the text
- cursor. The marked block will appear
- in reverse video.

- Double-click on a word to mark the
- whole word and the space after it.

- RESTYLING A BLOCK
-
- You can change the text style of a
- marked block by either choosing from
- the Style menu or the browser, or
- using the quick keys.

- To change the font and point size of
- a marked block, choose Font/size in
- the Style menu or press [Alt][T].
- When the form appears, select the
- font and point size you want and
- click on OK.
- CUTTING A BLOCK

- To cut a marked block out of the
- document and place it in the buffer,
- either choose Cut in the Edit menu,
- or press [Alt][X] or [Delete].

- COPYING A BLOCK
-
- To copy a marked block to the
- buffer, choose Copy in the Edit menu
- or press [Alt][C].

- PASTING A BLOCK
-
- To paste a block of text into a
- document (which need not be the
- document or page it was cut from),
- position the text cursor and either
- choose Paste in the Edit menu, or
- press [Alt][V] or [Insert].
