[HDNG]INTRODUCTION:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]S2[EGRPH][PARA][ITAL]Students are entitled to use the Manchester University's facilities, so they have some mean amenities at their disposal. On their own, UMIST competitions and involvement aren't quite so pulse straining. Students can only play for Manchester University's teams in sports where UMIST hasn't got a team of its own.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]SPORTS FACILITIES:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]Most facilities are shared with Manchester University. At Fallowfield, 21/2 miles from the campus, UMIST has an 10 acre sports ground called MUTECH, [ITAL]which sounds frighteningly like something you might find on a used hanky[EITAL] and where students can use the various playing fields, the tennis courts the pavilion and its bar. On the campus, on the top floor of the Main Building, there are facilities for 5-a-side football, badminton, basketball. At the Sugden Sports Centre just 150yds from the campus, there's more sporty gear, including a multigym, squash and tennis courts and more 5-a-side football. For test and county cricket, there's Old Trafford and golf at the Golf Club. Speedway bikes at Broadhurst Park, Rugby at Swinton, Salford and Trafford Borough, Volleyball at Sale.
