  1. CD-Runner Setup
  2. ---------------
  3.  
  4. The CD-Runner Setup section is to CD-Runner as the Control Panel is to Windows; 
  5. all of the options and features can be selected and customized as desired. 
  6. Below is listed by section a summary of the available options and features.

  21. A) GENERAL

  23. WALLPAPER
  24.  
  25. A graphical image (BMP, GIF, JPG, EMF or WMF file) or solid color screen may 
  26. be selected to serve as a background or 'wallpaper' for all of the CD-Runner 
  27. screens. In the wallpaper section of the CD-Runner Setup screen, the following 
  28. 5 options appear:
  29.  
  30.      * NONE - Disable the wallpaper option
  31.  
  32.      * DEFAULT SOLID COLOR - Use a dark blue solid color as wallpaper
  33.  
  34.      * CUSTOM BACKGROUND COLOR - Choose a custom color; click on the option 
  35.        first (a highlighted 'dot' will appear in the circle), then click on the
  36.        wallpaper box (around the sample CD Player or on the CD Player). This 
  37.        will cause a color selection dialog box to appear. Select the desired 
  38.        color and it will appear around the sample CD Player. 
  39.  
  40.          ** NOTE: if you wish to change the empty space on either side of 
  41.             the Audio CD player to a different solid color, then select one 
  42.             here (even if you use a bitmapped wallpaper).
  43.  
  44.      * TILED PICTURE - Choose a bitmapped image to be tiled as background; as 
  45.        above click on the option first, then click on the wallpaper box. A BMP
  46.        file selection dialog box will appear; you may single click on any of 
  47.        the BMP files present to display a resized sample (to browse files 
  48.        before making your final selection) or double-click directly on the file
  49.        to select it. After a file is selected, a sample tiled display will 
  50.        appear around the CD-Player as before. Note that the sample presented is
  51.        scaled to fit and is not necessarily how the final image will appear 
  52.        full screen.

  54.      * SINGLE PICTURE - Choose an image as above to fill the entire screen, 
  55.        stretching to fit if necessary. As above select the image and it will 
  56.        appear around the sample CD Player.
  57.  
  58. If desired, you may also click the 'Wallpaper' button instead of clicking on 
  59. the wallpaper box to bring up the color and file selection dialog boxes. As 
  60. mentionned elsewhere, if you are using 16 or 256-color video drivers, the files 
  61. may appear pale or ghosted due to color interpolation and other limitations 
  62. when using these modes. A driver with at least 65K colors is recommended if 
  63. you plan to use bitmapped images as wallpaper.

  66. CD-RUNNER OPTIONS
  67.  
  68. A variety of useful options exist when using CD-Runner; these may be selected 
  69. in the CD-Runner Setup 'CD-Runner Options' section. The following options may be
  70. set:
  71.  
  72.      * DISPLAY MAIN MENU ON STARTUP - if desired, you may display the CD-Runner
  73.        Main Menu screen as the first screen when CD-Runner is initially run. If
  74.        this option is disabled, then you may directly run a CD-ROM or play an
  75.        Audio CD (depending on your setup). If your primary CD-ROM drive is 
  76.        empty and this option is disabled, the disk prompt screen will be 
  77.        displayed.

  79.      * SHOW HIDDEN CONTROLS/ICONS - when this option is enabled, shortcut 
  80.        icons will appear on the disk prompt screen, and the control panel doors
  81.        for the CD-ROM and RD Runner screens will be displayed open (controls
  82.        visible).
  83.  
  84.      * AUTO-RUN - this option allows you to automatically run the CD-Runner 
  85.        application immediately after CD-Runner is loaded. For example, if an 
  86.        Audio CD is in the drive and the Auto-Run pulldown selection box is set
  87.        to ALL or Audio CD Only, then when CD-Runner is loaded the Audio CD will
  88.        immediately begin play. (NOTE: if a program has been stored for the 
  89.        Audio CD, then it will be played on startup; if not, then play will 
  90.        begin in the continuous mode.) Likewise, if the selection box is set to
  91.        ALL or CD-ROM Only, and if a CD-ROM is in the drive, then it will be run
  92.        on startup (assuming it has been already entered into the library).
  93.  
  94.      * ENABLE RD-RUNNER - if you wish to use the Removable Disk Runner, then 
  95.        enable this option. If disabled, then the RD-Runner icon will not be 
  96.        displayed in the disk prompt screen.
  97.  
  98.      * ENABLE MEDIA RUNNER - if you wish to use the Media Runner, then 
  99.        enable this option. If disabled, the icon will not be displayed as 
  100.        above.
  101.  
  102.      * ENABLE AUDIO CD PLAYER - if you have a compatible MCI CD Player driver 
  103.        loaded, and if you wish to play Audio CDs, then enable this option.
  104.  
  105.      * ENABLE CD-ROM RUNNER - if you wish to use the CD-ROM Runner then 
  106.        enable this option.
  107.  
  108.      * CDDB SETUP - click this button to enter the CDDB setup section.
  109.  
  110.  
  111. AUDIO OPTIONS
  112.  
  113. CD-Runner has the ability to run an audio mixer application, to control the 
  114. volume, balance, tone controls, etc.. Since most sound boards include their 
  115. own mixer application for Windows, CD-Runner allows you to select it and 
  116. use it while playing CD-ROMs, Audio CDs, etc. 
  117.  
  118. If present on your system, the Windows Audio Mixer application "Volume Control"
  119. (SNDVOL32.EXE) will be automatically setup during the CD-Runner installation.
  120. If you wish to use a different Audio Mixer, then you must locate the mixer 
  121. application written specifically for your sound board. This is usually a Windows 
  122. application named something similar to JAZZPMIX.EXE, SB32WMIX.EXE or AUDIOMIX.EXE. 
  123. Common subdirectory names in which the mixer application may be found would 
  124. include JAZZ, SB32, AUDIO, etc. Once the proper mixer application is located, it 
  125. will be automatically used by CD-Runner to allow you to change the Volume, 
  126. Balance, Bass and Treble tone control settings when the mixer button is selected.

  128. To select an audio mixer, click on the Audio Mixer text box, or click on the 
  129. Mixer button to display a file selection dialog box. Select the Audio Mixer as
  130. desribed above.
  131.  
  132. You may also choose to use the CD-Runner "internal" volume controls. If this
  133. option is enabled, the mixer button will be replaced by volume sliders with 
  134. balance and mute options. Note that you may toggle between sliders and mixer
  135. button by right mouse clicking on them. If the internal volume sliders do not 
  136. work, your sound board may not be fully Windows compatible. To correct this,
  137. check the "Force Windows Compatible" checkbox; this method does not support
  138. the "lock" (balance) option, and requires that the SNDVOL32.EXE file be
  139. present in your Windows directory.
  140.  
  141. To enable/disable the CD-Runner sound effects, check/uncheck the sound effects
  142. checkbox. If enabled, you will hear sounds during CD drawer opening, running
  143. your audio mixer, pressing the Power button, etc. NOTE: the sound effects option
  144. is not supported when using Windows NT4. Also, you may adjust the sound effects
  145. volume level by adjusting the "WAVE" volume.

  148. B) CD-ROM(s)
  149.  
  150. CD-ROM DRIVE SELECTION
  151.  
  152. If you wish to use CD-ROM Runner, then the primary (and optional multi-disk) 
  153. drive(s) must be set. The CD-ROM drive selected must be drive letter D or higher 
  154. (D thru Z); If the CD-ROM drive selected does not appear to be a CD-ROM drive, 
  155. then an appropriate message box will be displayed. When choosing a CD-ROM drive, 
  156. if CD-Runner is able to properly identify the drive types, then select a CD-ROM 
  157. drive which has a "CD" icon box next to it in the drive selection window.

  159. The primary or default drive is the first drive scanned to run an application. 
  160. When in the Library section, the primary drive is also used to enter a new 
  161. application, or to modify an existing one.
  162.  
  163. If you have a multi-disk CD-ROM changer or multiple CD-ROM drives, then enter 
  164. the drive letters in the multi-disk section. Up to 23 CD-ROM drives may be 
  165. entered. Note that the multiple drives will only work for data CDs (CD-ROMs);
  166. for lots of technical reasons, audio CDs are not supported with multiple
  167. drives (they must use the primary drive). For further information, see the
  168. troubleshooting section re: the setup of multiple drives.

  171. C) RD(s)
  172.  
  173. REMOVABLE DRIVE SELECTION
  174.  
  175. If you wish to use the RD (Removable Disk) Runner, then the primary (and 
  176. optional multi-disk) drive(s) must be set. The RD drive may be any drive 
  177. letter (A thru Z). 
  178.  
  179. The primary or default drive is the first drive scanned to run an application. 
  180. When in the Library section, the primary drive is also used to enter a new 
  181. application, or to modify an existing one.

  183. If you have multiple RD drives, then enter the drive letters in the multi-disk 
  184. section. Up to 23 RD drives may be entered.

  187. D) FACEPLATES
  188.  
  189. The faceplates tab allows you to customize the look of the CD-Runner faceplate.
  190. You can easily select different fonts, colors, 3D faceplate themes or skins,
  191. LCD or LED display modes, CD Drawer rivets & borders. After selecting new
  192. feature(s), a graphical sample faceplate will display an approximation of
  193. what the final changes will look like.

  195. A package of 24 additional faceplate themes is available for download from
  196. the CD-Runner web sites at http://www.cdrunner.com or http://www.cdrunner.net;
  197. go to the download page for a link to download the zipped faceplate themes.

  200. E) FONTS/COLORS
  201.  
  202. The fonts/colors tab allows you to customize the look of the CD-Runner
  203. selection boxes and playlist editors. You may change the background color
  204. and/or the font types, sizes & colors used as desired.

  207. F) LINKS...
  208.  
  209. The links tab allows you to customize the Internet links used on the CD-Runner
  210. popup menus and on the main menu. Simply click on the desired link to change,
  211. and when prompted enter the Internet web site description and address (e.g.
  212. description="CD-Runner Home Page", address="http://www.cdrunner.com").

  215. G) ADVANCED 1

  217. ADVANCED OPTIONS 1
  218.  
  219.      * ENABLE POPUP VOLUME & TRACK CONTROL - When playing an Audio CD or Media 
  220.        File, if enabled the remote volume control popup box will appear when the 
  221.        Runner is minimized. This popup box will appear as the topmost box (not 
  222.        hidden by other Windows applications) and can be moved by clicking and 
  223.        dragging it to any desired location. You may also control any of the track 
  224.        operations from the popup or right click on it to eliminate it.

  226.      * AUTOMATICALLY DISPLAY PGM PLAYLISTS - When the PGM play mode is selected
  227.        in the Media or Audio CD Runners, you may automatically display the PGM
  228.        playlist. You may enable or disable this option by using the checkbox 
  229.        provided.
  230.  
  231.      * EJECT AUDIO CD WHEN PLAY COMPLETED - When enabled (checked), audio CDs will 
  232.        be ejected when play has completed for program, single and continuous play 
  233.        modes.
  234.  
  235.      * CONTINUE CD PLAY ON EXIT - When enabled, audio CDs will continue playing 
  236.        even after CD-Runner is closed.
  237.  
  238.      * LOAD MIXER WHEN AUDIO RUNNERS LOADED - When enabled, the mixer application 
  239.        setup in the General tab will automatically be loaded the first time you 
  240.        enter either the Media or Audio CD Runner sections.
  241.  
  242.      * EXIT CD-RUNNER WHEN CD EJECTED - When enabled, CD-Runner will be closed when 
  243.        an audio CD or CD-ROM is ejected.
  244.  
  245.      * INTRO PLAY MODE DURATION - This option allows you to specify the time 
  246.        duration (in seconds) for the Audio CD Runner Intro Play mode; valid times 
  247.        are between 2 and 30 seconds.
  248.  
  249.      INTERNET / WEB BROWSER OPTIONS
  250.  
  251.      * WEB BROWSER - You may enter (or change) your favorite Web Browser for use 
  252.        with CD-Runner. Either enter in the full pathname in the text box provided, 
  253.        click the select [...] button to select the Web Browser using an Explorer-
  254.        like dialog box, or click the [Find Browser] button to allow CD-Runner to 
  255.        automatically find your Web Browser.

  257.      * DEFAULT WEB SEARCH ENGINE - Select the default web search engine for use 
  258.        with the Audio CD Runner; when a CD is being played, you can use the "www" 
  259.        button (upper right corner of faceplate) to display all of the web search 
  260.        options.

  262.      MEDIA RUNNER OPTIONS
  263.  
  264.      * USE FIXED VIDEO MONITOR - Select this option to set the Media Runner to 
  265.        display the standard fixed video monitor at normal size as a default.
  266.  
  267.      * USE SIZABLE VIDEO MONITOR - Select this option to set the Media Runner to 
  268.        display the resizable video monitor as a default. You may also specify 
  269.        normal (original) size, double size, or full screen default size modes.
  270.  
  271.      * USE WINAMP TO PLAY MP3 - Check this option to use Winamp to play MP3 files; 
  272.        if checked, you must specify the location where Winamp is stored on your 
  273.        system. (You can even select multiple MP3 files to play in the Media Runner 
  274.        using the PGM or CONT modes, and a "m3u" Winamp playlist will be created 
  275.        "on-the-fly" before it is run from CD-Runner automatically. NOTE: CD-Runner 
  276.        is in no way affiliated with Winamp - we have provided this option only by 
  277.        popular demand.

  279.      * USE REALPLAYER - Check this option to use RealPlayer to play Real files; 
  280.        if checked, you must specify the location where RealPlayer is stored on 
  281.        your system. NOTE: CD-Runner is in no way affiliated with RealPlayer - we 
  282.        have provided this option only by popular demand.

  284.      * TIME BETWEEN TRACKS - Use this option to specify the time interval between 
  285.        media tracks (1-9 secs).

  292.      * ENABLE ONLINE VIEWING OF LYRICS - Check this option to enable online 
  293.        viewing of song lyrics info from the International Lyrics Server (ILS) 
  294.        and to specify the location. NOTE: As of this writing, the ILS is only
  295.        displaying some limited lyrics for those artists / songs for which it
  296.        has approval. Although artists, albums, and song listings may be viewed 
  297.        online, many song lyrics cannot yet be viewed; the option to download 
  298.        lyrics (using either an automated method or copy/paste) has been 
  299.        discontinued.
  300.  
  301.      * USE 3RD-PARTY CD RIPPER - Check this option to use a different CD Ripper
  302.        utility with CD-Runner.
  303.  
  304.      * ENABLE DEFAULT MEDIA DIRECTORY - Check this option to set a default Media
  305.        Runner directory; if enabled, this will be the first directory listed
  306.        when entering the playlist editor or selecting files to play.
