Macias was originally from the Federation colony on Juhraya, and lived there when the Federation Cardassian treaty was signed. He tried to stay on in his home, but was attacked and beaten by Cardassian operatives, leaving him permanently scarred. Macias relocated to Ronara, and became part of the Maquis cell there. A complex man, Macias was fond of hasperat and played the belaklavion, though he was not a Bajoran. He befriended Ro Laren, and was instrumental in her decision to leave Starfleet and join the Maquis in 2370. Shortly thereafter, Macias was killed in a surprise attack by Cardassians. The Marijne beings attempted to communicate with the crew, by directly accessing their thoughts, but this proved fatal to the scientists. Geordi La Forge explored the Raman with an interface unit and found what appeared to be his mother, Silva La Forge, on board the vessel. During the search, Mauric became suspicious of Enterprise -D personnel, demonstrating seriously paranoid actions. While it was not widely known at the time, the Pegasus was also used a testing ground for an experimental phasing cloak, in violation of the Treaty of Algeron. The Pegasus crew protested the illegal test and eventually mutinied, forcing the captain and seven other crewmembers to escape the ship in a pod. Shortly after the captain departed, the crew attempted to shut down the cloak. The device malfunctioned, and the ship drifted in space, in a cloaked state until it came to rest within the body of an asteroid in the Devolin system. All members of the crew, save the seven who escaped, were lost when the ship unphased, leaving parts of the ship open to vacuum and parts encased in solid rock. (“The Pegasus” [TNG]). In 2362, while the Enterprise -D was still under construction at Utopia Planetia Fleet Yards, a love triangle existed between Pierce, Marla Finn and another man. When Pierce caught the other two embracing, he became overwhelmed with anger, and killed them both. Afterwards he was overcome by guilt, and committed suicide by jumping into the plasma stream in the Enterprise -D's nacelle control room. Because Pierce's maternal grandmother was Betazoid, Pierce was partially empathic. The subspace energy in the nacelle imprinted his empathic pattern on the nacelle bulkhead like a “psychic photograph.” In 2370, Daniel Kwan discovered the panel, and since he was also partially empathic, the psychic signature triggered an hallucination that caused him to experience events similar to those last experienced by Lieutenant Pierce, causing Kwan to commit suicide. Pressman was also in charge of the covert testing of a new Federation designed phasing cloak, even though the development of this technology by the Federation was a violation of the Treaty Of Algeron. Pressman persisted in testing the device, over the objections of most of the crew. During the final test of the device, Pressman's crew mutinied, and Pressman was forced to escape the ship, along with seven other crewmembers who remained loyal to him. The Pegasus was believed to have suffered a warp core breach shortly after Pressman's departure, and was believed destroyed with all hands. A JAG investigation followed the destruction of the ship, and despite the fact that the Judge Advocate found sufficient evidence to believe a mutiny did take place, no further action was taken. In 2370, Starfleet Intelligence obtained evidence that the Romulans were searching for the wreck of the Pegasus, so Pressman came aboard the Enterprise -D, determined to locate and salvage the cloaking device aboard the Pegasus, at all costs. The devices were implanted directly into the victim's cerebral cortex, and required a passage of time to tune them to the individual's psi-wave pattern. In 2370, while in the custody of the Prytt Security Ministry, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Dr. Beverly Crusher were implanted with these devices. A side-effect of the device Picard and Crusher found was that they could read each other's thoughts. The devices were later removed. (“Attached” [TNG]).

While working with the Cairn diplomatic delegation in 2370, the telepathic demands on Ambassador Lwaxana Troi were so great that her psilosynine level was depleted. (“Dark Page” [TNG]) U.S.S. Enterprise -D chief medical officer Beverly Crusher manufactured a psilosynine inhibitor for Deanna Troi in 2370 during her investigation into Daniel Kwan's death. The inhibitor lessened the number of telepathic images Deanna received. (“Eye of the Beholder” [TNG]). This inhibitor was given to Troi during her prolonged hallucination in that episode. It may or may “really” exist.
