- Given his age, and the obvious status of his parents, that is not a
- possible solution either. He is obviously going to the offending shrink
- against his will in the first place, and will continue to be strongarmed into
- going, until his parents are fully satisfied that he has been properly cured.
-
- Well, if he's "almost 18," he can stop going as soon as he IS 18, and the
- doctor and parents have no right to force him to go. In the mean time, he
- may have to GO, (although I personally would make them have to drag me,
- kicking and screaming, into the office) but he doesn't have to PARTICIPATE.
- the "doctor" can't make him actually SAY ANYTHING during the sessions, and
- neither can the parents. If he sits there and ignores the shrink, the
- parents will probably soon see that they're shelling out a lot of money
- with no forseeable results.
-
- As far as getting his own therapy goes, I went to a family therapist for a
- while with my father who gave us some sessions for free, as he had a grant
- from the state of NJ to study family problems, and thought we were an
- interesting case. (My sessions, BTW, had nothing to do with my being gay,
- but that's beside the point.) If he were to call a local hospital's
- psych wing, they might to able to refer him to some similar arrangement.
