- I have yet to see any convincing evidence that 1) homosexuality is
- a "mental illness" that can be "cured"; 2) The parents of homosexuals
- are to blame for their sexual preference (which the book states, according
- to the article); 3) Homosexuals inherently have more psychological
- problems than heterosexuals; 4) Homosexuals are "oversexed" or have
- more sex drive than heterosexuals.
-
- Randall's use of the word "oversexed" juxtaposed with Arthur's
- reference to blacks is very illuminating. Not that long ago black
- males were the group that was considered "oversexed". One of the
- tragic consequences of that stereotype (of course combined with
- general prejudice and an unwillingness to see black men as fellow
- human beings) was the infamous syphillis "research" at Tuskegee
- Institute. For those who are interested, this week's Nova is about
- this scandalous episode (I haven't seen the TV program, but I did read
- "Bad Blood").
