  25. The IRS has investigated one of Lou Sheldon's organizations (probably
  26. the Traditional Values Coalition).  I don't understand what happened,
  27. but my understanding is that a GLB* group notified the IRS, the IRS
  28. investigated, but such investigations aren't of a public nature.  I
  29. could be wrong though.

  31. The definition of "political activities" is rather unclear to me,
  32. anyway.  CSW/LA (LA Gay Pride) is a nonprofit organization prohibited
  33. from political activities.  Our legal counsel advised us that we 
  34. could NOT lend office space to people collecting signatures for a gay
  35. rights initiative, but that it is OK for us to send money to LIFE
  36. Lobby, the Gay rights lobbying organization in Sacramento.

  38. A smart group (for or against any issue) would have a non-profit
  39. organization incorporated for lobbying and most activities, and a
  40. for-profit one incorporated just for doing those few things that
  41. qualify as "political activities."
