- The IRS has investigated one of Lou Sheldon's organizations (probably
- the Traditional Values Coalition). I don't understand what happened,
- but my understanding is that a GLB* group notified the IRS, the IRS
- investigated, but such investigations aren't of a public nature. I
- could be wrong though.
-
- The definition of "political activities" is rather unclear to me,
- anyway. CSW/LA (LA Gay Pride) is a nonprofit organization prohibited
- from political activities. Our legal counsel advised us that we
- could NOT lend office space to people collecting signatures for a gay
- rights initiative, but that it is OK for us to send money to LIFE
- Lobby, the Gay rights lobbying organization in Sacramento.
-
- A smart group (for or against any issue) would have a non-profit
- organization incorporated for lobbying and most activities, and a
- for-profit one incorporated just for doing those few things that
- qualify as "political activities."
