  13. Today's (1/22/93) New York Times reported on the 3,000
  14. people who showed up at the White House yesterday to greet
  15. the Clintons and Gores..

  17.     "Mr. President, I wanted to tell you I was so excited
  18.     when I received my call," said Chris Henry, who like
  19.     most of the visitors sent postcards to Washington and
  20.     were notified last week that they would get tickets to
  21.     meet Mr. Clinton.  "And I wanted to call my parents.
  22.     But they aren't talking to me for the last 11 years
  23.     because I'm a lesbian.  I hope your Administration
  24.     will change that."

  29.     "my husband" (he greeted the man with a warm handshake).

  33.     The gay couple, Joshua Rodin and Dennis Layton of
  34.     Washington, were so intent on capturing attention that
  35.     they put out a press release with the title, "Clinton to
  36.     host gay couple at the White House."

  38.     "Clinton was not fazed at all," Mr. Rodin said afterward.
  39.     "He was very warm and welcoming."  He said he gave the
  40.     President a red AIDS ribbon, that he "didn't put it on
  41.     but slipped it in his pocket."
