  11. I've heard conflicting stories about foreign language fluency
  12. requirements for grad school.  I'm not surprised that there is
  13. a requirement for fluency in a language other than English in
  14. many doctoral programs.  How common of a requirement is it for
  15. application to grad school?

  17. Let me emphasize that I'm not upset about such requirements --
  18. just that I'm coming up towards graduation in two semesters,
  19. and for a variety of reasons, I have taken only two trimesters
  20. of Russian at the college level (and most of that faded away
  21. when Carter was still President).  I took German in grades
  22. 7-11, and that is almost adequate to read a German newspaper,
  23. with a dictionary nearby.

  25. If a language flency requirement is common for entrance to
  26. grad school, I may have to delay my graduation a bit...
