  13. I've got just one more thing to say about this subject.
  14. (What happens when you reply too fast, oh well).

  16. Letting men join all-women groups that concern themselves
  17. with the advancement of women has another good side
  18. effect:  Education!  The men who join these groups will
  19. be sympathetic but may also have slightly different
  20. opinions (to be realistic, not all the women will have
  21. the same opinions either.  Just look at the various
  22. opinions of the women who post to this group and
  23. alt.feminism).  But this is a wonderful chance to *educate*
  24. them!  And if they try to shout you down, SHOUT BACK!
  25. There is *nothing* stopping women from being as loud-mouthed
  26. and assertive as any man might be!

  28. Women can sit around in women-only groups and talk
  29. and bring laws into existance, but that is only a
  30. very short term solution.  The only long term solution
  31. is education.  Having men in organizations such as
  32. NOW or SWE will educate them and some of that just
  33. might "rub off" onto people they come in contact with,
  34. from a football buddy to how they raise their sons
  35. and daughters.

  37. (On the education sidnote:  It's also extremely important
  38. to educate women too.  I've seen professional women who
  39. have children and treat sons and daughters very different.
  40. I have seen them quiet their daughters down but allow
  41. the sons to be loud and unruly.  They don't even try!
  42. They just say "it's a fundamental difference" and continue
  43. raising daughters who will be hesitant to speak out.  I know
  44. people will disagree with me on this, but I have seen
  45. mothers 'shush' the daughter when she opens her mouth
  46. but ignore or encourage the son.  I feel a lot of the
  47. ideas of women being quiet and unassuming and men being
  48. loud and agressive comes from this kind of upbringing.  It
  49. gets passed from generation to generation and both men
  50. and women must be educated in order to break the cycle.)
