  13. This came to me via some folks at Digital (yes, there still are folks
  14. at Digital):

  17. Help convince NBC to put domestic violence awareness public service
  18. announcements on during the superbowl!  (talk about reaching a lot of
  19. your target audience...)

  21. For political activists, or media watchdogs, or just concerned women,
  22. here's a quick something you can do to help prevent and stop domestic
  23. violence.

  25. Super Bowl Sunday - which this year is January 31, here in southern
  26. California at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena - is the single worst day for
  27. domestic violence in the USA.  There is an increase of as much as 40%
  28. in the volume handled by domestic violence shelters on this day.

  30. To try to stem this tide of violence, the Women's Action Coalition
  31. (WAC) of Los Angeles is supporting the campaign by Fairness and
  32. Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) to convince NBC (the network carrying the
  33. game) to carry two Public Service Announcements on domestic violence
  34. during the Super Bowl this year.  Anna Quindlen of the New York Times
  35. wrote a fine editorial in the 1/17/93 edition of the Times supporting
  36. this effort as well.

  38. What I am asking of you - and all your friends (please PLEASE
  39. cross-post this to _any_ lists you can think of) - is to help us with
  40. a FAX/LETTER blitz on NBC, asking for these PSA's.  Here is a sample

  51. We (I) support FAIR's request that you air two Public Service
  52. Announcements on domestic violence during the Super Bowl game.  The
  53. Super Bowl is one of the most widely viewed television events of the
  54. year; it is also the day, according to women's shelters, when calls
  55. for help increase by as much as 40%.

  57. Your broadcast of the Super Bowl will reach a huge audience.  By your
  58. airing PSAs, NBC will be bringing to a national audience the critical
  59. and important issue of domestic violence.
