- USS Stump is a Spruance class destroyer. She is named after a war hero,
- probably from WWII. Destroyers and frigates in the US Navy are named after
- people, typically sailors and marines either who were important to a US
- victory (Spruance for example) or who gave their life in the defense of the
- country and made a difference in a battle (like a Congressional Medal of Honor
- receiptant).
-
- She probably fired Tomahawks from an armored box on the main deck since I
- do not think she has been back-fitted with the vertical launch system.
