  18. Yah.  Sony is VERY good about selling service manuals.  They are relatively
  19. inexpensive (I haven't heard of one that costs over $20, most are much less)
  20. and fairly complete with schematics and etc.

  22. Note:  The instructions for alignment and such do assume that you are
  23. experienced in the color tv service field and just need the info that's
  24. specific for the particular set -- ie if you need a tutorial on color tv setup,
  25. you need to go elsewhere.

  27. Anyway, one of the following two numbers should do it:  (copied from a posting
  28. late last year in rec.audio)

  30.     816-891-7550/parts  800-551-7669/everything else

  32. If your XBR is like mine, you will also need to order some of the small 
  33. permanent magnets that are used to perform the adjustments.  (I don't know the
  34. numbers -- they're in the service manual).

  36. You will also need a crosshatch pattern generator, unless you use a handy
  37. computer with NTSC video output to do the job.

  39. By the way, if you can markedly improve a 27" XBR's geometric (pincushion)
  40. distortion, while preserving horizontal and vertical linearity and convergence,
  41. Sony would probably like to hear from you -- assuming that they'll admit that
  42. there's a problem.  There have been many complaints in rec.video from folks
  43. with 27" (and larger) XBR's and EXR's who have tried -- repeatedly and
  44. unsuccessfully -- to get Sony to fix this aspect of their sets.

  46. (And btw, Sony fans, I've seen Zenith 27" sets without this problem -- so it's 
  47. NOT inherent in the screen size.)
