  20. Yes.  But you usually have to drill or melt using a solder gun (better)
  21. the hole that SVHS VCRs and camcorders look for to sense an SVHS tape
  22. (unless you modify the electronic circuitry in your VCR to override the
  23. SVHS hole "sense" and allow you to record SVHS on any tape VHS or SVHS).

  25. People have reported on the net that if you use a reasonable good
  26. quality VHS cassette ( Sony ES, Fuji A/V Pro, etc.) you can get
  27. a reasonable SVHS recording on it (with a little bit more noise)
  28. but that EP (aka SLP) SVHS recording on VHS tapes suffers considerably.

  30. SVHS tapes do have different formulations than VHS tapes (higher bias?)
  31. since they do have to record a wider/higher bandwidth video signal.
  32. Standard disclaimer : there is no guaruntee that VHS tapes will work
  33. well for you if they are used for SVHS recording.

  40. published in the recently resurrected VIDEO REVIEW mag - once in the
  41. Nov 90 issue - that I know about):

  45.         Broadcast NTSC  330
  46.         VHS(SP)         240-250
  47.         VHS(EP)         220

  49. SVHS EP mode would be somewhere between VHS(SP) and SVHS(SP).
  50. If it were good (good tape, good VCR, good source material) I
  51. would expect it to be between 330 - 400 lines horiz. res.
