-
- Yes. But you usually have to drill or melt using a solder gun (better)
- the hole that SVHS VCRs and camcorders look for to sense an SVHS tape
- (unless you modify the electronic circuitry in your VCR to override the
- SVHS hole "sense" and allow you to record SVHS on any tape VHS or SVHS).
-
- People have reported on the net that if you use a reasonable good
- quality VHS cassette ( Sony ES, Fuji A/V Pro, etc.) you can get
- a reasonable SVHS recording on it (with a little bit more noise)
- but that EP (aka SLP) SVHS recording on VHS tapes suffers considerably.
-
- SVHS tapes do have different formulations than VHS tapes (higher bias?)
- since they do have to record a wider/higher bandwidth video signal.
- Standard disclaimer : there is no guaruntee that VHS tapes will work
- well for you if they are used for SVHS recording.

-
- Here are the resolutions (figures for s/n and other metrics have been
- published in the recently resurrected VIDEO REVIEW mag - once in the
- Nov 90 issue - that I know about):
-
- SVHS 400-425
- Standard US TV 350
- Broadcast NTSC 330
- VHS(SP) 240-250
- VHS(EP) 220
-
- SVHS EP mode would be somewhere between VHS(SP) and SVHS(SP).
- If it were good (good tape, good VCR, good source material) I
- would expect it to be between 330 - 400 lines horiz. res.
