  26. I used to be a non believer in high dollar cables.  Wire is wire, right?

  28. Well, I was proven wrong.  Last month I bought a new Nakamichi CD
  29. player and the dealer said I *had* to connect it to my system with a
  30. pair of cables that cost $125.  Major sticker shock!!  No way was I
  31. going to spend that much on a single pair of phono cables.  So I sat
  32. down at one of their systems and did a listening test, comparing the
  33. cheapie $4 cables that came with the unit to a midline $30 set and to the
  34. $125 set.

  36. I was amazed.  The difference between the cheap cables and the $125
  37. cables was not subtle.  The highs were suppressed, the midrange was
  38. exaggerated, and the bass was not as smooth using the cheap cables.
  39. There was a similar difference between the cheap cables and the $30
  40. cables.  And, because I don't have golden ears, I could barely distinguish
  41. the difference between the $30 cables and the $125 cables.  So,
  42. obviously, I bought three pair of $30 cables for my system instead of
  43. one pair of $125 cables.
