- We're planning to visit Amsterdam in the middle-late spring,
- with the possibility of continuing on to a week in London.
- If you can offer some advice or information on the following
- questions, I'd be very grateful.
-
- Amsterdam:
- What type of weather should I expect in late April?
-
- How formal is the dress for restaurants, shopping, museums,
- larger hotels??
-
- Any info on cost comparisons? (versus US) - perhaps suggestions
- of excellent things to buy and where?...old books, lace, bulbs,
- anything...our interests are varied and we'll probably take a list
- from friends and family.
-
- Other than Queen's Day, are there any "occasions" I should
- plan to include in my trip?
-
- What is the current exchange rate US$->DGs??
-
- Can you recommend any good local or family restaurants?
- I prefer to eat where the local residents do. Will language
- be more of a problem? (I don't know the language at all, and chances are
- I won't be too much better by spring.)
-
- I'll be using public transportation: any suggestions?
-
- Can you recommend any must-sees? We are history fanatics and
- gardeners. I have a strong interest in textiles.
-
- My Huguenot ancestors migrated through Amsterdam and Rotterdam
- on their way to England in the 16-1700s: are there any museums or
- societies which keep records of this time?
-
-
- London:
- Can you suggest one or two moderate hotels?
-
- We'll want to find less expensive and local places to eat (as above).
-
- Does anyone know of exceptional needlework shops in London?
-
- Same Huguenot question as above.
-
- Thanks for any help you can offer! This is my first trip to Europe and I'm
- really excited.
