- Athens: In Athens you should have no problem getting around if you speak
- only English. Almost all the shop keepers, restauranteurs, even many
- taxi drivers, speak at least some English. In other cities in Greece,
- you won't have much of a problem either, as many young people have studied
- English in school, so you should be able to find someone almost anywhere
- who can (and will) help you.
-
- Rome: Same as Athens.
-
- Amsterdam: I haven't been there, but friends who have been there tell me
- that most Dutch people speak English.
-
- Paris: Many people in Paris speak English, but you will probably encounter
- some who will do so only grudgingly. I speak some fractured French, and
- even that seemed to be more acceptable than English in some places.
-
- Romantic? Paris, of course! Nothing is quite like a walk along the
- quay next to the Seine where you can look up at Notre Dame cathedral!
