- If you are willing to spend a day in a Passport office (such as the offices
- in San Francisco or New York), it is possible to do it in one day. These
- days, they will generally require you to have a plane ticket in hand to
- do this. What I did in San Francisco was walk into a travel agency
- down the street, and charge a refundable ticket to Amsterdam. Two
- hours later, I left the Passport office with my new passport. (Actually,
- I was traveling overseas for interviews, so I did not have my "real"
- ticket, it was to be picked up at the airport.)
-
- It is important that you get to the office as early as possible ... lines
- can be long. I believe you can also get your passport issued at once if
- you are overseas and the original is lost or stolen - you need to go to a
- US embassy or consulate office to do this. Of course you should have the
- paper work, photos, and acceptable proof of citizenship with you when you
- go to the office.
-
- Good luck,
-
