- This could have happened with any other rental company as well.
- It seems to depend a lot on the agents you deal with, and you
- may just be unlucky. But you should have done some things differently:
-
- (1) Use the AVIS phone in Key West to make related long-distance calls.
- (2) Insist on last names, they are not allowed to refuse you to tell their
- names. Even if you have to chase this guy down, I would do it. Send
- a letter to representatives higher up in the chain and a copy to the
- manages of your local office where this guy works. They should be able
- to figure out who he is. And insist on some additional reimbursement.
- (3) Don't take the car to the dealer. That's their job. You should not have
- to spend any time on this.
- (4) You should get a partial reimbursement for the hotel for this one night
- since you didn't have transportation to find a hotel with a "reasonable
- price" without a car. (Of course, you had to stay somewhere anyway, so
- a full reimburement seems unlikely.)
- (5) If your car is acting strangly but you can still drive it, call around
- and find the next available rental place which is willing to swap. If
- you can't find one, drive until the car dies. I'm serious, only then
- will you get fast service. If it is a minor damage, ignore it until
- you get back, swapping cars takes too much time (as you know now...)
- (6) Mention your frequent flyer number.
-
- And still, all this might not help. But it's worth a try.
