- Cascades, WA
-
- Friday, January 22, 1992
-
- Temp: 22 F at base at 9 a.m.
- Weather: Snowing with 6" new
- Winds: Gusting from the south at 5-20 mph
- Visibility: Forget it
- Avalanche: Severe, S/N Back closed
-
- Roads: Compact snow; IF 4x4, then OK; ELSE, chains, a good idea
- Folk just stopped on Blvd to chain up (I hate that)
-
- Parking: Lot 1 was 1/2 full at 8:30 a.m.
-
- Base Depth: 75" at bottom and in Green Valley
- Lifts: 1 & 5 closed.
- S Back: Closed
- N Back: Closed
-
- Crystal was operating on generators for most of the a.m. Full
- electricity was restored by noon. The Pudget Sound/Mt. Rainier
- Valley still recovering from Wednesday's deadly wind-storm which
- left 5 folk dead but 3-4 ft of snow on Cascades. Probably more
- on Rainier. Crystal ran no lifts to the top Wed and Thur a.m. A
- lot of terrain opened for the first time on Friday a.m. with 6"
- new. Trees in Right Angle easily contained 3-5 ft of kinda-
- light new stuff.
-
- Snow Quality Index: Light, but not-really-heavy, Cascade cement
- variety.
-
- A lift ticket cost $16 from 9am til 10 pm.
-
- Crystal has lots of new snow and with 3 low pressure storms
- lined up in the Gulf to hammer the Whistler/Baker/Crystal corri-
- dor, midweek looks like the next *good idea*. Storm tracks from
- the NW yield snow with the lowest water content that you will
- find around here.
