  12. I've been skiing for over 10 years and I've never injured
  13. myself due to skiing (knock on wood) and I'm a firm believer
  14. that you will only injure yourself if you ski beyond your
  15. abilities.

  17. Anyways, with this discussion on how the ski patrols should
  18. be tightening down on the "reckless skiing" by confiscating
  19. their lift ticket; a couple of friends of mine are members
  20. of the Ski Patrol Association (whatever it's called) and they
  21. say that most hills reserves the rights to revoke the ticket
  22. but only give this power to a few 'senior' patrollers and
  23. some of the lifties.

  25. They said that in most cases, for them to try and take
  26. someone's ticket away, they would have to point them out to
  27. an empowered liftie and ask him/her to mark the offender's
  28. ticket and give the offender a warning.  And then, if they
  29. catch the offender again, they can ask the empowered liftie
  30. to revoke the ticket.  They all find this process sort of a
  31. pain and will only exercise this procedure if the offender
  32. is actually doing something very dangerous to the other
  33. skiers.  They wouldn't really care too much if someone is
  34. just trying to kill himself without inconveniencing others.

  36. These patrollers also have a nickname for those really bad
  37. skiers who cause all kinds of problems (nothing to do with
  38. their skiing ability that is):  SPORE - Stupid People On
  39. Rented Equipment, or SPOTOE - Stupid People On Their Own
  40. Equipment.  I thought it was pretty funny.  " ... and some
  41. SPORE came down and .... "
