- People have mentioned various problems with fan goggles. Here is my
- experience with the Smith turbo goggles:
-
- The battery pack is on the strap, two standard AAA batteries. I think
- a pair of batteries lasts some 10 days, at my usual rate. I had
- temperature problems only once, around -20C, with the strap going over
- the hood. (I now put the strap over my hat, inside the hood.) Carry
- spares.
-
- It doesn't look like the fan, which is completely enclosed in the upper
- frame, would create any extra trouble in a face plank.
-
- There is a a fair amount of noise, which helps you not to forget to
- turn the fan off, but it does not impede conversation at normal voice
- levels.
-
- There are easy-to-find replacement lenses, in the usual garish colors.
- (The fan goggles use the same size lenses as some regular Smith)
-
- Some pressure is transferred on my glasses, but juggling with their
- frame (wire), the strap position, and the strap tension brings
- it to a reasonable level.
-
- In short, not the most comfortable contraption, but it works far better
- than anything else.
