- Are there still turning plates used in America for turning Diesel
- locomotives?
-
- Yes - I don't think any new ones have been built since the end of the steam
- era, but turntables and roundhouses are both convenient enough in cold
- climates (Maine, Canada) that the surviving ones get routine maintenance.
-
- Is there an american standard for the cables that transmit the signals
- from the front cab to the other locomotive(s)?
-
- Yes, since the mid-50s at least. Some minor incompatibilities exist (gear
- ratios must be fairly close), but mixed-vendor power sets were very common
- even before mixed-RR power sets.
